Mahoutsukai no Yome tells the story of different inter-species romance (?): Hatori Chise and Elias Ainsworth. Hatori Chise is a girl who just happens to be a slave to the witches in Europe because of her special status. He has the nickname "Slay Vega" because he has the supernatural abilities that many occult actors desire at the time.
His fate turned a hundred and eighty degrees when an ancient wizard with a goat skeleton bought it and raised him as a disciple. But Elias's motive was not that simple. He was attracted to Chise not just for his Slay Vega status or indeed a dying teacher.
Elias himself bought Chise to make her his future wife. Whether it is because of boredom for too long or to continue the wizard class (iykwim) to the extent that the magician willing to spend five million pounds.
Is it true that Elias made Chise as a disciple and also his wife on the basis of sheer love? Or is there a hidden motive that is inside his skull?
Calming Visual Effects
Set in the western world, precisely in the UK, Mahoutsukai no Yome presents beautiful scenery typical of Europe that can calm the heart. The audience as if invited the streets used to enjoy all the natural appearance like the mountains and beautiful forest while listening to the explanation of the character dialog that seemed to act like a tour guide.
Not only the artwork that spoil the eyes, CGI dish that is not excessive also adorn the journey of the story of Chise and Elias. The effects for the magic usage scenes that Elias, Chise and Angelica used in the third episode captivated the writer. The portions are fitted and also the effect is also not as rigid as CGI anime mostly like Berserk anime and Kado The Right Answer.
Flowing Plot Like a Calm River
Although the storyline seems slow, the audience will not feel bored because the dialogue and interaction between the characters themselves are interesting enough to be listened to. Slow the way the story is understandable because banyakanya things that must be explained throughout the story such as introductions of the characters and also the concept of worldbuilding anime itself.
Looks like Wit Studio does not want to rush in raising the conflict that became the main ingredients. The audience is guided first to know the intricacies of Chise and Elias world before enjoying the conflict that the wizard and Slay Vega will face.
This step is quite telling. It should be a slow story at the beginning of the story and focusing on introducing a world that is certainly not familiar to audiences of all ages. Familiarizing the story with the audience will make them able to prepare themselves to enjoy the conflict that will arise in the future.
Three episodes are the ideal number for this anime to introduce their world to the audience. So, the possibility of next week's episode could be the beginning of a "storm" that hinders the romantic story between this teacher and student.
Well in his own latest episode, eventually Elias and Chise's abilities must be tested when facing two new antagonists who claim to be "majutsushi" rather than "mahoutsukai" like Elias and Angelica.
